I was in Seattle during the week of 15th October, visiting my cousin Subha (and her family) and some of my friends. I was staying with Subha at her newly bought home in Bellevue, situated less than half a mile away from Redmond, better known as the home of Microsoft Corporation.
There was that constant drizzling and a few showers that Seattle is always known for. The days were dull and the nights set in early. The ground was damp and a gentle, cool breeze was constantly whistling through the trees that were showing off their red, yellow, maroon and sometimes green leaves. Its fall season!!! What do you expect? It was not the first time that I was kicking myself for procrastinating my decision to buy a camera. The colors were so bright even when the sun wasn't out. A day out with a camera must have been every aspiring photographers' dream. Sadly, I missed my chance.
I was witness to the cool, quiet, overcast but 'almost' troublesome weather in King County except on one day. The weather experts anticipated that the first wind storm of the season would hit the region (that would reach up to 60mph) late in the afternoon on Thursday. A lot of employees at Microsoft came in early so that they could also leave early. Microsoft encouraged employees that had to take State Route 520* to work from home.
The storm did come, but not as fierce as expected. Steady winds blowing at 40mph with gusts in the mid 50's brought down a few trees (some on to cars), blew debris on to the streets and caused power outages to a number of Puget Sound residents. One was reported dead and a few injured. Apart from these incidents, the storm behaved pretty decently. Having sat inside the house most of the time and having come from Chicago - famous for its winds and so righteously called 'The windy city', for me the wind storm was nothing more than a few rapid movements of the leaves on the trees followed by the almost certain loud exclamation of my cousin that managed to scare her 1 yr old daughter not once, but many times. Apart from this one day in Seattle, the rest of the days were calm and quiet and gave me the feeling of having gone on a vacation to Ooty.
Everything has to come to an end and so did my vacation in Seattle. I'm back home to the even colder weather in Chicago and waiting to start working. But not before I receive my OPT* card which by the way will take a while. Till then my vettiness will continue to haunt me (in a nice way). So anyone as vetti as I am, please feel free to buzz me when you come online :D

OPT - Optional Practical Training. After completing MS, the United States government allows students to work for a year in their respective disciplines. It's pretty much like a temporary work permit.
